Encourage women to enter scientific fields. Such is the ambition of Angélique Gérard, special advisor to Xavier Niel, founder of Free and president of the new Sistemic project, contraction “sister” and “stem” for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. According to the report “women at the heart of the economy” submitted in 2020 to the Ministry of Economy, only 24% of experts in “stem” are women. A businesswoman in the very masculine world of telecommunications for twenty years, Angélique Gérard wants to encourage young women to embark on scientific studies. This Monday, July 18, Sistemić is announcing a call for applications for approximately 8 students to receive a scholarship.

IT, aeronautics, biotechnologies… The field of possibilities is huge. To participate, young women must be between 17 and 25 years old. They are invited to apply on a dedicated Sistemic website by answering 40 questions about their situation, background and motivation. “They can also upload a YouTube video of 3 or 4 minutes maximum explaining their connection to the ‘stem’ as part of their studies or extracurricular activities and send us the link”, says Angélique Gérard. It could be a robot demonstration, a biology thesis topic, or a presentation about space, for example. In the second step, a cover letter will be requested. The deadline for submitting applications is December 10, 2022.

Each selected student will receive support from 5,000 to 8,000 euros. But also unlimited access to the Sistemic platform, which will aim to provide content such as podcasts, articles or MOOCs (Massive open online course) on various topics such as courage, self-confidence, agility, adaptability or humor. These scholarships are funded by partners, including Natixis and Inetum.

In February 2023, during the Systemic Forum dedicated to studies “stem” in Paris, the names of scholarship holders for the next academic year 2023-2024 will be announced. If by the time the results are published, the candidates have received rejections for admission to the desired institutions, then other names will be chosen, Angélique Gérard specifies.
