Johann Zarco (Ducati / IV): The speed is there, the inconsistency / the motos

Pramac Ducati’s veteran Johann Zarco drove the first MotoGP session after the summer break despite an accident and ended up fourth in the Silverstone tally on Friday.

Johann Zarko is determined to prevent a dip in performance in the second half of the season, which has brought him from second in the world championships last year to fifth this year. The 32-year-old Frenchman started with a second-round crash at Silverstone on Friday morning, but was unfazed by it, as he set a best time in FP1 and ended up fourth in FP2 in the afternoon.

The front collapsed. I braked a little later and slipped a little with the rear wheel. Then the front slid away from me, and back, but I fell off the bike,” the Pramac Ducati driver described crashing into a 7th turn. I think even if I had stayed on the bike, I would have hit the gravel bed hard – and at speed it would have been worse than my crash.”

“But I had good confidence,” confirmed the third-placed World Championships champion, still chasing his first win in moto. β€œIt was important to ride again at the end of the session to get the feel on the bike. I wasn’t expecting to time well into the closing minutes of FP1. That gave me confidence in FP2 – and the pace was there in the afternoon, hopefully more consistent We’re working with the team to get the bike ready and it’s more consistent. Because it’s still a bit difficult to keep the lap time at a good level.”
