674 worldwide college students examine on the College of La Reunion

The University of La Reunion welcomes many foreign students every year. Last year their number was 987, this year 674 people were registered, including more than 300 new ones. The quality of the training offer and research is emphasized.

The welcome day for international students at the University of La Réunion took place this Friday, September 16. More than 300 new students from 44 nationalities participated.

A total of 674 foreign students from 56 nationalities study at the university and registration remains open. Last year, 987 students were admitted.

The University of La Reunion is the only French and European university present in the Indian Ocean.

Most of the 56 nationalities are from countries in the Indian Ocean such as Madagascar, Comoros and Mauritius. Then come European students, mainly from Germany or Switzerland, thanks to the Erasmus program.

Finally, Panama, Bolivia, Peru and Russia are also represented. And then, for the first time this year, students from Rwanda and South Africa are welcomed.

The University of La Reunion was awarded for the quality of welcoming international students. It stands out for its increasingly internationalized training offer with English language courses for at least 3 years, explains Anne-François Zattara, Vice-President for European and Regional Cooperation at the University of La Réunion.

Réunion has developed cutting-edge research in specific areas such as biodiversity, health, emerging diseases and renewable energies. Laboratoire de l’Atmosphere has joined the prestigious Shanghai ranking, which recognizes the world’s best research sectors.

In 2022, the university is conducting an experiment in 4 fields in cooperation with South Africa’s Kwazulu Natal University: construction and energy; atmosphere and climate; Agricultural products; biodiversity and tropical aquatic, coastal and island ecosystems.

This will allow 10 students, 5 from each university, to complete one semester of university studies at each of the host institutions.

Rebecca is German. She wants to continue her studies in the field of education and is enrolled in the Faculty of Literature and Humanities. He wanted to get away from his country. The University of La Reunion joined the network of Franco-German universities, which are more than 190 higher education institutions located in the capitals of France and Germany. The network connects about 6,400 students and more than 300 doctoral students.
